Iran’s stand at 2016 Cannes Film Market has commemorated late-great Iranian director Abbas Kiarostami as well as the country’s renowned producer Ali Moallem.
The later passed away just a few months back while Iranian auteur departed this life in 2016.
Cannes Film Market's "Iranian Cinema Umbrella, a centralized stand presenting Iranian movie productions hosted the ceremony in the presence of several Iranian cinema managers as well as the country’s cineastes attending the latest edition of Cannes Film Festival.
Fatemeh Motamed-Arya, Hassan Najjarian and Kamal Tabrizi were among the filmmakers and actors present at 70th Cannes Filmfest.
The film market is the business counterpart of the Cannes Film Festival with latest edition of the later slated for May 17-28 in the French city of Cannes.
Earlier on, the manager of Iranian Cienma stand at Cannes Film Festival was quoted by the media as saying that Iran has a significant presence at the French-based fest, adding that 5 films will be screened at the event along with a special tribute to the late Iranian director Abass Kiarostami, who passed away in July 2016.
Amir Esfandiari added that a total of 9 film distribution companies, including Shahid Avini and FilmIran, at Iran umbrella stand are active in the Cannes Film Market.

The ceremony was held on Tuesday under the auspices of Iran-based Farabi Cinema Foundation.
Referring to Kiarostami, noted Iranian actress said in the event that “If the world cinema has lost an important director, we (Iranians) lost a rock-solid pillar”, adding,” He was the pillar of humanity and being an artist.”
